| There are many easy ways in
which you can apply for a personal loan today, with most loan providers accepting
applications by post, over the telephone or, perhaps most conveniently, online.
You will be judged on the information you have supplied and the lender will assess
whether or not you meet their lending criteria. They will try to determine whether
or not the product for which you have applied is suitable for you, and whether
your financial situation indicates that you will be able to make the necessary
repayments. Decisions are often made quickly and you will hear very soon after
your application whether you have been successful or otherwise.
UK personal loan companies use credit reference agencies in order to obtain
information on your financial status. Credit reference agencies have access to
a variety of personal information on UK residents including details of any county
court judgements, defaults or bankruptcy and will produce a credit report which
the loan provider will use to make their assessment.
If you are declined by a loan provider then you are well within your rights
to ask which credit reference agency they used. You can then approach the credit
reference agency and ask for a copy of your credit report. You will usually be
charged a small fee for this service. If they have incorrect or inaccurate information
on you this is your chance to put it to right with a polite written request.
The two main credit reference agencies in operation in the UK are Experian
and Equifax.
You can visit their websites to learn more about what they do and why.
